These days a patent doesn’t do much in terms of protecting your product idea. It is very easy to rip off a patent. Tweaking a small thing on your patent can by-pass the whole patent itself. Not to mention fighting a patent in court can be very expensive.

In this video I mention some point about if you really need a patent or not. You can always apply for a patent later as your product is on the market and making sales. It is much more beneficial to be generating income from your product sales than to be putting off your product launch and spending money on getting your patent done.

The best way to protect your product is by constantly innovating your product and listening to your customers feedback so you can keep improving your product. If you are the best, people will buy from you. And if your product is the best people will rip it off whether you have a patent or not.
